RMB THINK Bench

The brief was to conceptualise and produce a significant sculptural tribute to RMB’s THINKING Brand. The sculpture is a public bench that is both functional and a beautiful public work of art. The vision is to install the 13m long prototype in the courtyard of Merchant Place, but ultimately to set up the Bench at universities around the country for regular use by students.

Olivier involved a diverse collection of student artists, giving them the opportunity to be mentored and to develop their skills. Nkhensani Rihlapfu and Allen Laing are assistant artists and were involved with the conceptual development of the work, while George Halloway joined the team at a later stage to work on the technical side and upscaling of the modelled pieces.

The process involved first casting a bronze maquette which was upscaled and refined for the final production in concrete.
